5 Ways Church and Tech can Tango

For those of you who believe that we ought not start mixing the “old” with the “new”, this post may not be for you, since that’s what this is all about. The church has gotten used to being so far behind innovations, that it almost seems sacreligious for me to say that we should be right behind, if not ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing innovative ways to reach people, and to faithfully minister to the members of a church.

The following are 5 simple ways you can “catch up”:

5. For heaven’s sake, get a projector! I know they can be expensive (1,000 - 5,000 dollars), but it’s an investment worth making. The fact is, people retain more information if they both hear and see it, so why would we ignore that?

4. Build a website. I know, this can potentially be another painfully expensive venture, but again, it will be worth it. If you are a pastor or church leader and want a website, contact me, I may be able to help.

3. Now that you have a projector and a website, quit wasting time in you services making announcements! Just put them on the screen and on the website. If you must, you can also include them in the bulletin, but for goodness sake cut them out of the service!

2. Blog! Yep, I’m talking to you, Pastors!!! Cory has a great series on blogging for pastors, so get over there and read it, and start blogging! Put a link to you blog on the church website so potential members can already be getting to know you before they ever visit your church. What a great way to build good relationships with people.

1. Record and distribute digital sermons. Be it through CD or MP3, use technology to get your messages in the hands of your members! And plus, now that you have a website (you do have a website now, don’t you?), you can post mp3s of your sermon so people can listen anywhere in the world!

There you go, 5 ways your church can get with the times.
