The spammers made me do it – Akismet
Over the last couple of weeks, I have been receiving a large amount of comment spam. If you don’t know what that is, it’s essentially the same thing as spam email, but instead of sending it to your inbox, they post it as a comment on a blog.
Although WordPress did a pretty good job of catching them and holding them in the moderation queue, I was getting tired of marking so many comments as spam.
So, yesterday I installed Akismet. So far, it hasn’t missed a single spam and no false positives either. Since the time I installed it, it has caught 16 spam comments. Talk about a load off my back!
But, I must warn you. If you post a comment and it doesn’t immediately go through, you may have been tagged as a spam. So, if you don’t see your comment show up immediately, send me an email and I’ll approve it manually. I’ve not heard of too many instances of Akismet doing that, so it shouldn’t be a problem, but if it does, just let me know.
Just giving you a heads up…
