Friday Favorites - Church Video Ideas

A couple of years ago, I started dabbling in digital video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro here where I work.  Just small things, nothing major.  But as I learned, I realized that I wasn’t too bad at it, and it became something I rather enjoyed.

During the process I started learning about all the ins-and-outs of what makes a good video, and I started looking for good video techniques by watching how the pros did it on television.

One of the things I noticed was that they rarely used still backgrounds, and almost always used motion backgrounds, even if it was very little motion.

So, I decided to play around with Adobe After Effects to make my own backgrounds.  Turns out, I’m not nearly as good at that as I was at just the video editing.  So I decided I’d just download some from the Internet.  But, as some may well know, you can’t just download stuff on the Internet for free (well, this was before Lifechurch started offering free downloads), and were forced to pay money for them, money I didn’t have.

That’s when I found Greg Atkinson’s blog, churchvideoideas.com.

Greg offers great little tips for video guys, especially guys who work with their church’s video stuff.  What I loved about his blog was the fact that he was always sharing links to freebies with us. That fixed my little money problem
Anyway, if you’re a video guy, or are interested in working with video in your church, you’ll want to be a subscriber to Greg’s site.  It’s well worth the room in your feed reader.
