Rental Houses, Harry Potter, New Bible, New Bed, Ferret Poop, and Brownies
OK, it’s a weird combination … but I’m tired and we’ll just have to see where this goes
Rental House
I’m pretty dead-set on a rental house in Anderson. I met the property manager yesterday for a walk-through and it looked like the place for me. Plus it’s only 10 minutes from NewSpring and 5 minutes from the interstate highway. Great location, good house, good price … I’m not complaining. I really do dread a 2nd move in the last 6 months, but I think this time a u-haul is in order
Harry Potter
I finally got curious enough to give the Harry Potter movies a go. With all the hubbub about them from the Christian community, I figured I needed to give them my own personal assessment before I made a judgment call. In all honesty, they didn’t seem bad at all. Pretty much just a fantasy movie like The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, or The Lord of the Rings. Good movies too, very entertaining. I’m only through movie 3, and as I understand it, there are 3 more in the series (one only in book form). I’m looking forward to the others.
New Bible
Meredith and I went to the Christian Bookstore yesterday. I picked up a new thinline NIV for church, and she got a new women’s study Bible. She seems to like it. I’m really excited about mine! I was a bit tired of having to lug around my 12 pound McArthur Study Bible when I went to church. This new Bible will be much lighter.
New Bed
As some may remember, I sleep on my couch every night because my bed is so horrible. The matress is lumpy, old, and springy. Plus the bed frame is about to fall apart. I went to a furniture store yesterday that’s going out of business soon, and found a brand new king size bed with a frame, mattress, and box-spring. The great thing is, because they’re going out of business, I can offer them any price I want. I’m hoping I can get this bad boy for real cheap
Ferret Poop
I own 2 ferrets. Yes they’re awesome and adorable and loads of fun to play with, but only one of them is smart. The other is quite thick, and it’s hard to get her to poop in her own litter box. As you can imagine, it can be frustrating to clean up ferret poop all the time. It’s most frustrating when they poop of the floor RIGHT BESIDE the litter box. What an idiot!
Brownies
I tried to be smart and make brownies with splenda on Tuesday. Turns out, brownies made with splenda are quite nasty! They were dry, bland, bitter, and all around just weren’t very good. So I broke down and made some real brownies with real sugar last night. Much better! Oh, and even with the brownies and the cheating on the diet this past weekend, I’m another pound down this morning!
I’ve upped the fruit intake between meals to get rid of the hunger. So far it’s worked and I never let myself feel hungry (which will slow my metabolism). So far so good. As always, I’ll post updates as I progress.
Have a great day!

I learned today that the Bible (KJV) mentions a ferret only once (Lev. 11:30)–only to say that it is an unclean animal!
I’ve done the same recently with Harry Potter movies. Mind you, I haven’t read the books but I’ve found the movies to be pretty good. Falwell is rolling in his grave…
Around here we have several furniture stores that have going out of business sales monthly. I don’t understand how that can be legal.
Harry Potter is one of my guilty pleasures
I got addicted when the first book came out (keep in mind, I was 10 or 11 then). I don’t know what I’ll do when there aren’t any more books to read.
Anyone who seriously claims that the series is anti-Christian has simply never read the books or seen the movies (and as I understand it, several of the most prominent advocates of banning it have admitted as much). It’s rather hard to miss the prominence the celebration of Christmas and Easter are given in every single book.
That’s heavier than my laptop!
Ben,
I’m with you. I’m not a big reader, so it’s only movies for me.
Evidently, this place is being bought out because of financial issues they had. They’ve marked stuff down like you wouldn’t believe, and on top of that, they’re so desperate to get rid of the stuff that they are accepting offers too. I may be able to get some really nice stuff for next to nothing.
George,
I must admit that it is also one of my guilty pleasures. Someone in the video rental store saw the movies in my hand and gave me a little crap over it. Turns out he owns all the movies too though, so I think everyone has a little curiosity about them.
Oh, and maybe 12lbs was an exaggeration. But it’s a thick, heavy Bible nonetheless
hey nathan! yeah, there are 7 harry potter books in all and so far there are only 5 movies. i agree with your opinion of them being purely fiction, but some people i’ve met completely freak out when i mention them. ya, the ferret (no offense) crap at our house smells awful. for some reason i can’t stop smelling where EVER i go!
I just finished the seventh book, actually
A good and fitting end to the series.
