Weekend Reflections

Being that I am still on a diet, this weekend I tried to maintain that diet as much as possible. I’m running low on food from my Nutrisystem boxes, so I’ve had to supplement it with other healthy foods. So Friday night I had a veggie burger. I told Meredith that they could use this line as an advertisement: “Same great look as a regular burger … without all that nasty burger taste and texture” :-) Seriously, they weren’t great … but they filled my belly.

On Saturday, I headed down to the lower state of SC for a birthday get-together with the family. We met a Ryan’s Buffet, and again I tried to stay within reason.

But as always the highlight of the weekend was Sunday. The NewSpring band did a really great job with that Amazing Grace arrangement.

Gary Lamb was the guest speaker this week, and like Steven, he did a great job. I had actually never heard him speak before, and it was a treat. What he and his church have been able to do in that town is pretty amazing. I never get tired of hearing stories of what God does with willing hearts.

After NewSpring, I headed to my old church, Bethel, where I like to go and hear some solid Bible teaching. Timothy is such a great example to me. I’m probably the same age or older than he was when Paul took him under his wing. One thing Jeff said that really stuck with me (I wrote it in the margin of my Bible) was this: “Character is the foundation of ministry“. He said that using Timothy as his example, and I took it to heart. No matter what my ministry is … whether it be volunteering to pass out handouts, directing traffic, working with the web, or being involved in a small group, my ministry will not be successful if I lack character and integrity.

Afterwards, I got to hang around the church and talk a little bit. I can say with certainty that it was one of the most valuable conversations I’ve ever had. I tried (although I’m not very good at it) to just listen as much as possible. I wanted to absorb as much wisdom as I could.

After some sleep and a little blogging, I’m ready for a new week! I’ve got a lot of work to do, and not a lot of time to do it, so I’m off. I hope everyone had a great weekend like I did!
