Bullet Points – 8/31/07
What’s better than having to use your cell phone to connect to the internet? Losing your air conditioning and a set of power outlets where your home office is … that’s what!
It’s probably been over a month since we’ve had rain in Anderson, but in the last week it’s stormed twice. Both times my power flickered. The last time, evidently I lost power to a set of outlets in the back of my living room where my office is.
But there was some good too … thankfully the A/C came back on last night for some mysterious reason. The repair man is gonna come out and look at it for me. We’ll see what he says the problem was. The diet is going well too … I’m down another 3 pounds as of Wednesday. Anyway, let’s get to the bullet points…
- NathanRice.net is active, but not yet populated. The design is almost complete, but still has some tweaking to do. You can head over there if you’re interested in that sort of thing.
- After a few months (give or take) I’m going to be giving away a customized version of the theme that’s on NR.net. When I switch out the new design, I’ll run a contest or something to give the old design away.
- Monday is labor day, and I’ll be laboring.
- Tony said what we all were thinking here. Many times, people criticize because it makes them feel important. Love us or hate us … your opinion really doesn’t matter. It’s our responsibility to ignore your criticism. (Nehemiah 5:2-3)
- Pole Dancing workouts are becoming popular, and it’s causing a little controversy in some Christian circles. I can’t seem to figure out why. It’s not in public … there is no nudity. Sometimes you just have to scratch your head and wonder exactly what these people thing IS ok to do? Oh well, not everybody can be happy and enjoy being a Christian. Some people would rather make it way more difficult than it has to be. Don’t you just love the “slippery slope” argument?
- I’ll be hanging out with Paul Peterson this Sunday. We’re going to a NewSpring service, the out to dinner afterward to hang out and talk. I’ve never met him before, but he and I have been conversing via email and blog for the last few months. He offered some good advice and consolation back in April when I had to go through some unexpected transition. Cool guy, for sure. He’s planting a church soon too, and that’s pretty exciting. I love church plants!
- I know it was her “thing” … after all, she was a prosperity preacher … but I’ll be honest, it kinda bothered me knowing how much Paula White and her soon-to-be Ex-Husband are worth. I’m not a “poverty-preacher” or anything, but having multi-million dollar homes all over the world while your church was in debt and constantly asked congregation for money … it just seems a little fishy. I’m pretty sure Jesus would react to them much like he did with the money-changers in the temple. I don’t know … it just doesn’t seem right. It’s not my church though, so that’s between them and God.
- The dialog between me and Sonny has been interesting.
Anyway, I need to take a shower and get back to work. I have a deadline tonight … and a date. Could it get any better?

Love how I can always count on some great thought challenges around here! thanks for the links and interesting dialogs!
Enjoy your dinner Sunday–it will be great!!
Rindy,
I’m fairly sure that the end of week bullet points are my favorite posts to write.
plus, you guys seem to like them too … now that’s a great combination!
Dinner will certainly be well anticipated. I’m very eager for Sunday to come!
Oy vey… shield your eyes Lord, there are women dancing on poles!
I would take up pole exercising, but it would scare me too bad and I think my wife would never touch me again.
I missed the madness on that post involving “Sonny”. Wow. I don’t know what to say.
I’m looking forward to nathanrice.net. I’ll have questions…
Cool! I finally broke my 175 barrier- I’d been sitting at that weight for two months- and in fact I broke 170 over the last two weeks. I moved my goal down 5 pounds though, so I’ve got 15 more to go. Working 50 hour weeks has probably helped- there’s a fair bit of physical labor involved, and not as much opportunity to snack. Five people at my job either quit, were fired, or transferred in the space of three weeks, so everyone else has had to work long hours to take up the slack. At least now I can justify to myself spending the cash on that Dean bass… and a sweet deal on a Seagull acoustic at the flea market.
I hear ya… at least I get time & a half ‘cuz it’s a holiday.
You can’t figure out what’s wrong with pole dancing????!!!!!!!
Chad,
Read the comment above. No nudity. Not in public. It’s a workout. And probably makes for good fun for husbands and wives at home.
Nope. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to figure out why dancing on a pole, fully clothed and in the privacy of a studio or home, is wrong.
I guess I’m just weird.
But, I’ll stand with you against that whole “dancing on a pole nude for dollar bills and lusty stares from men who like to gawk at women” thing.
Perhaps there’s a difference?
“Perhaps there’s a differnce?”
No!
Nathan…do you believe it is also okay to bring pole dancing into the church like this?

If you think that is ok, please tell us where you draw the line.
Josh,
Did you happen to notice that story was satire? None of it actually happened. (other than the first part, which no, I don’t have a problem with).
Take a look at my last comment and find out where I draw the line. Where we obviously differ is in our opinions on which device on which a woman is allowed to exercise. I find your position a tad bit too strict, especially considering the fact that you can’t give a reason why a woman shouldn’t exercise on a pole (as opposed to a treadmill).
Nathan
Chad,
Care to explain why they aren’t different?
