Weekend Reflections
OK, quick survey. Who here knows what the Jockey Lot is?
Believe it or not, my first ever real job was at the Jockey Lot. For those who don’t know, the Jockey Lot is probably one of the biggest farmer’s markets I’ve ever been to, and I used to work there selling wallets. It wasn’t great money, but it gave me some cash to spend throughout the week, and led me to my second job … selling Pokemon cards
Yep, a buddy of mine and I decided to take advantage of the huge popularity of those stupid little things and make a few bucks selling pieces of paper with pictures of imaginary characters to children who thought they were worth something.
This past Saturday, I took Meredith on her first visit to the Jockey Lot … and although we didn’t buy anything, I think it was probably the best time I’ve had with her in a while. The first thing we did was eat breakfast and talked. It’s hard to beat a breakfast at the Jockey Lot
After that we just walked and walked (hopefully burning of the calories from that breakfast) until our legs and feet hurt. My hips are still angry at me.
But hey, it was good fun.
I still have no internet connection at my house. I’ve been using my cell phone to connect to the net to check email and do some light work, but I’ll be glad to have this thing finally hooked up once and for all!
I spent Sunday morning and afternoon with some great people, some of which I haven’t seen in a while. It was good to catch up with people, talk about church, find out what everybody’s plans are, etc.
Once again, it was another highlight day at church. You see, NewSpring has this philosophy that we, as church members, should reach people 2 ways … personal witness and invitation to church. The membership class manual calls it “investing and inviting”, and yesterdays service was focused on helping us realize that we all know someone who needs Jesus. This person was represented by an empty seat on stage. The presentation was powerful, but the truth behind the presentation was even more powerful. People flocked the stage to write names of people they knew who need to be at church next Sunday. Let’s hope they all show up!
Anyway, it was a long weekend to be sure, but starting over should be fun. The internet installation guys should be here soon, so wish me luck!
