Weekend Reflections
This weekend was probably one of the best I’ve had in a while!
Meredith and I spent Saturday with some friends of ours in the mountains by a waterfall. We picnicked there at the base of the waterfall and talked about all kinds of stuff. The night before, Meredith and I baked some “mini apple pies“. I gotta say, they were better than I expected. After that, we headed back to Anderson to our friends’ house for some pizza and a movie. Facing the Giants to be specific.
Honestly, I enjoyed the movie, but I enjoyed the extra features even more. It gave the story about how the church produced the movie. I was encouraged by the attitude of the pastoral staff who decided to fund the project. Unreached groups of people plus passionate individuals equals incredible results!
On Sunday morning, I headed out to Marathon Community Church for worship. One of the most meaningful things mentioned in the message was a quote from Rick Warren: “If you’re right, but you’re rude, then you’re wrong.” That really stuck to me, and in all honesty … there are a lot of bloggers out there (including myself) who could take that statement to heart.
One of the highlights of the weekend was being joined by Paul Peterson for a service at NewSpring. Paul is the former pastor of Northgate Free Methodist Church, and is in the process of planning for a church plant in the near future. Paul has been one of my favorite bloggers for a while now … especially since his journey has taken him away from a pastorate and into the unknown world of church planting. After the service, I got to take his family out to dinner at Chili’s (if you happened to be at Chili’s and sitting next to us, I apologize. Two grown men carrying on about church for 2 hours probably wasn’t pleasant). I know that in that short amount of time, I grew as a person! I think our conversation was contagious, and I left that place with some serious excitement.
I just don’t think a weekend could have been more perfect!

Sounds like an awesome weekend!!
I’m glad you had a good weekend. We really missed you here. Seems like holidays are worse. We’ll probably see you in a few weeks though.
I just got to watch Facing the Giants also… Great story, pretty good cinematography (could use some work), terrible screenplay writing.
Oh my gosh man… it never occurred to me that what it would have been like to be seated next to us!
Hey, I TOTALLY enjoyed this weekend! Looking forward to more connects! Next time I buy!
I always enjoy your enthusiasm about New Spring and Marathon. It’s amazing what God is doing! Interestingly though, the pastors catch flack because they didn’t go to seminary and aren’t “ordained.” This is a common arguement I hear from people who are trying to discredit these churches. I’d be interested to know your opinion on that topic.
