Politicians Reek of Insincerity

Is it just me, or does every Democratic candidate (with the exception of Richardson) reek of insincerity when talking about their faith? Even some republicans (McCain, Guilani) put off a bit of an odor…

John Edwards’ face even turns red and his voice trembles when he talks about “the Loword” (that’s southern for “Lord”).

Huckabee seems sincere … even Romney does. But seriously, Hillary Clinton talking Jesus??? It just sounds awkward, like when someone farts on an elevator.

What’s frustrating is that it’s the voters’ fault we have to listen to this crap. If we would realize that it doesn’t matter what the candidates think about religion, we could spend a heck of a lot more time getting answers on where the person stands on political policy. Don’t believe in God? Don’t believe in the Bible? No problem, as long as you can convince me that you’d be willing to die to protect my right to do both!

Ugh … voters make me sick sometimes. This has turned into the “who loves Jesus more” race, rather than a Presidential race … and it’s our fault.

I’m trying to figure out if you were aiming for a pun…Otherwise, it should be ‘reek’! :)

no pun, I’m just a bad speller sometimes :-)

I like what Huckabee said on the Today Show this morning. The gist of it was that your spiritual beliefs have no bearing on your ability to run the country. However, if you’re willing to publicly claim a religion, you should live your life accordingly. If you call yourself, let’s say, a Muslim, but then your life doesn’t reflect those values, it’s an indicator that there will be inconsistencies between your words and actions in other areas too.

That’s a good point, Shelley, I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Also, to be fair, do you really consider Giuliani to be any more sincere about his faith than the Democrats?

Dude, I snorted my water through my nose when reading the Jonathan Edwards comment. You gotta warn people…

It seems like these days choosing a candidate is really about trying to figure out who is B.S.ing the least. I don’t care what church they go to (or avoid). Just stop lying to me every time you open your mouth!

And you’re right. It is our fault. I actually had someone approach me the other day after church and ask me which candidate I was supporting. Meaning… tell me who to vote for. Meaning… tell me who God approves of.

I laughed and told them that I asked God and He told me that He was going to send a flood to wipe out all the candidates and start over.

God help me my sarcasm sneaks up on me sometimes.
