Fred Thompson Pulls Out…
It seems that Fred Thompson has pulled out of the Presidential race. Being that he is the closest thing to a conservative in the 2008 race (other than Ron Paul), this is a blow to the future of the Republican party.

Huh. What differentiates him so strongly from the likes of Huckabee, in your eyes? It doesn’t seem to me that they’re much more different than Clinton and Obama on the issues.
Well, he was pretty much taking Huckabee apart in the SC debate. He’s much less of a nannystater.

Fred was no good, IMO, but he was certainly a more “conservative” candidate than the rest of the neocons. He had a pretty clear record of low taxes and deregulation, etc. I’m not saying that out of any amount of extensive research or anything, but I was told by numerous conservatives that after studying all the candidates, Fred was their man. So I assume he was the most conservative. From what little I know about him, this seems to be true. As MIn said, less of a nanny state guy.
Kucinich has now dropped out as well.

Yeah, saw that. Not disappointed though. He had a fraction of the grassroots support Paul does, and while his foreign policy is nice, his domestic policy is unequivocally socialistic. But he would save enough money by eliminating the empire that we might actually be able to afford all his entitlements
